The job of a management consultant is to go in to a company and improve the company’s performance. This is often done by deep analysis of all aspects of the business and how it is currently run and then making proactive suggestions about how improvements can be made.
The improvements will often be implemented to increase productivity, lower over heads and increase turn over. To do this a management consultant will look at items such as, cost of suppliers and if any savings can be made, improving staff moral to improve productivity, retail / trade prices for products or service the company is selling and staffing numbers / job roles.
Consultancies may also provide organizational change management assistance, development of coaching skills, process analysis, technology implementation, strategy development, or operational improvement services.
Sometimes a number of consultants will be bought in to specialise in a particular department. There will usually be one consultant who is in charge of the team.
